However, there are still a number of solid mass-market cars that will be making their way into the Indian automotive market this year. Maruti Suzuki Swift

The fourth generation Swift will be making its debut on May 9. Maruti Suzuki has already commenced the bookings for this model, and the entire country is buzzing with excitement. The new Swift will come with a lot of exterior design updates and a brand-new, more modern interior.

One of the main highlights will be its new Z-Series 3-cylinder petrol engine, which will be assisted by a 12V battery. This new engine will help the new Swift in achieving 25.72 kmpl mileage. Expect to pay a premium over the price of the outgoing Swift.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

As of yet, Maruti Suzuki has not announced the date for the launch of the new Dzire. However, this new sub-compact sedan is anticipated to come a few weeks or months after the launch of the new Swift. It will feature a similar exterior as the new Swift and a ton of new features.

It has been reported that Maruti Suzuki will be offering this sedan with an electric sunroof. This will make it the first sedan in the sub-compact sedan segment to come with this feature. It will also boast a new and more premium-looking interior. Powertrain will remain the same as the Swift.

Tata Altroz Racer

In order to challenge the Hyundai i20 N-Line, Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the all-new Altroz Racer hatchback. This new, sportier iteration of the outgoing Altroz was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Auto Expo. The new Altroz Racer will come powered by a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine.

It is the same motor as the Altroz iTurbo but has been more powerfully tuned to generate a maximum of 120 horsepower and 170 Nm of torque. This is 10 horsepower and 30 Nm more than the iTurbo. Its main rival, the Hyundai i20 N Line, on the other hand, offers 120 horsepower and 172 Nm of torque. No launch dates have been announced as of yet.

Tata Curvv EV

Although Tata Motors has officially shown the Curvv ICE first in the country, the company has confirmed that it will be first launching the Curvv EV first. As per the reports, it will be launched around July of this year.

Speculations are that the Curvv EV will be offered with two battery pack options like the Nexon EV facelift – the Medium-range model and the long-range model. Currently, the Nexon EV MR uses a 30 kWh battery, whereas the LR variant comes with a larger 40.5 kWh battery.

The outgoing Nexon EV facelift offers around 325 km and 465 km of range in its MR and LR variants, respectively. However, it has been reported that the Curvv EV will be offering around a 500 km range on a single full charge.

Tata Curvv

Soon after the official launch of the new Tata Curvv EV, Tata Motors will be launching the Curvv diesel in India around August of this year. In terms of design and features, it will be exactly the same as the Curvv EV.

However, it will get a diesel powertrain. This SUV will borrow the time-tested 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine from the Nexon diesel. This motor delivers a maximum power of 115 PS and 260 Nm of torque. This engine is expected to be paired with a manual gearbox.

Citroen Basalt

The French automaker Citroen is gearing up for the launch of the new Basalt coupe SUV in the country. This new model is also based on the Citroen’s C3 hatchback’s platform. It is believed that the company will be launching it around August of this year.

It could be priced in the range of Rs 15-20 lakh. Meanwhile, in terms of competition, it will compete with the Tata Curvv coupe SUV in India. It will come powered by the same 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine.

This is the same engine that powers the Citroen C3 Aircross. It is expected to generate a maximum power of 110 PS and 205 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with both a manual as well as torque converter automatic transmission.

Mahindra Thar five-door

Around the same time of August, Mahindra will most likely also be launching the new Thar five-door. The new Thar five-door will come with a few exterior updates and a few interior highlights as well. It will be getting an electric sunroof, roof-mounted speakers, ADAS, 360-degree camera, and a ton of others.

Expect to pay around Rs 18 lakh for the base variant of this SUV. The new Thar five-door is expected to come powered by Mahindra Scorpio-N’s powertrain options. These include 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines.

Honda Amaze

According to reports, the new Honda Amaze will be launched in India around the festive season. The company will be updating the exterior design to bring it in line with the new City and Elevate models.

Honda reportedly will be only offering the new Amaze with a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. This is the same engine as the current model. This engine produces 90 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. It comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox.
