The vice presidential debate between Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) and Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) is set for Oct. 1 on CBS.
Vance posted Thursday on X that he had accepted the invitation for the debate after Walz did the same on Wednesday night. Vance also indicated he would be willing to do an additional debate in September, though no such arrangement has been publicized.
“The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has challenged Kamala to three of them already,” Vance posted in response to Walz. “Not only do I accept the CBS debate on October 1st, I accept the CNN debate on September 18th as well. I look forward to seeing you at both!”
CBS News had originally proposed a vice presidential debate in late July or early August, but those dates were scrapped after President Biden dropped out of the race, shaking up the Democratic ticket.
The network said Wednesday it had proposed holding a debate on either Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1 or Oct. 8.
Historically, there has only been one vice presidential debate per election cycle.
The Oct. 1 vice presidential debate will take place after the first planned debate between Harris and former President Trump, which is currently scheduled for Sept. 10 and will be hosted by ABC News.
Trump has said he also accepted debate invitations from Fox News for Sept. 4 and NBC News on Sept. 25. Harris and her campaign have said they will attend the Sept. 10 debate before agreeing to any other potential dates.
