Bishop T.D. Jakes experiences 'health incident' during Sunday service

(NEXSTAR) — Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a “slight health incident” while wrapping up his sermon at the Potter’s House of Dallas on Sunday, the church confirmed in a statement.

Video clips shared widely on social media from the livestreamed service show the 67-year-old bishop and motivational speaker seated onstage in a chair, speaking to the audience.

“I still love to preach. I ain’t tired of preaching,” he says before wiping his forehead with a cloth.

After sharing a few more words, Jakes begins to pray but suddenly freezes. He then appears to convulse slightly as several people rush onstage.

A voice could be heard over the speakers asking the crowd to pray as Jakes received assistance. The livestream seemingly ended moments later.

The Potter’s House said in a statement that Jakes “received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour long message.”

“Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals,” the statement continued. The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community. Thank you for your understanding and continued prayers.”

The church has not announced any changes to upcoming services following Sunday’s incident.

Jakes founded The Potter’s House in 1996. The non-denominational, multicultural church has more than 30,000 members, according to its website.
