Kia Carens Scored 0 Stars Last Time In GNCAP Crash Test but 3 Stars This Time: What Changed?

The popular MPV Kia Carens recently once again underwent crash testing by Global NCAP. Soon after its results got published, it has managed to garner a lot of attention. This is happening because the SUV received a dismal 0-star rating in a previous assessment. However, in the latest test, it managed to bag an improved 3-star rating. So if you are one of those who are wondering what has changed in the Carens to prompt this improvement? Here is the answer.

What happened in the Previous Test

In the previous crash test conducted by Global NCAP, the Kia Carens faced criticism for its poor safety measures. This resulted in a 0-star rating for adult occupant protection (AOP). Out of 17 points, it managed to only score 9.30 points. The assessment highlighted poor protection for the driver’s neck.

It added that the vehicle only offered marginal safeguarding of the chest and knees. Additionally, it was reported that there was instability in the body shell’s integrity. However, despite offering six airbags as standard, the Carens fell short of expectations.

The zero-star rating acted as a catalyst for Kia to reassess the Carens’ safety features. It also helped the brand in improving its safety features and performance.

So after recognizing the need for improvement, Kia responded promptly to address the identified shortcomings. Immediate efforts were directed towards enhancing the neck protection and upgrading the restraint systems in the MPV.

Kia Carens recent GNCAP testing

Following the updates made by Kia, the Global NCAP conducted another round of crash tests. This time, Carens models manufactured after December 11, 2023, showcased significant enhancements in occupant protection.

This improvement was particularly in mitigating neck injuries. The revised safety measures took the Carens from a zero-star rating to a commendable 3-star rating.

Analyzing the Results

The latest crash test revealed a notable advancement in the Carens’ safety performance. While it still falls short of achieving a top-tier rating, Kia has taken a leap from zero to three stars.

This time around the Kia Carens has scored 22.07 points out of 34 total in adult occupant protection. On the other hand, the Carens has managed to bag 40.92 points out of 49.
